Product Love :: Berkus for Target Picks

I have long loved Nate Berkus and his no fuss down to earth approach to design. Like most design junkies I was excited to see his collection for Target launch last week. I was probably overly thrilled to see a nice balance of tchotchkes...I mean if there is something Nate knows best it is tchotchke placement. The man can accessorize a room like nobody's business... I mean come on. I was also pleased to see plenty of gold and yellow accents in his collection. In true Berkus style he did not disappoint. Here are my top picks from the Nate Berkus for Target Collection. Xo - Annie

His & Her Bath Design

I was thrilled to receive an order for two bathrooms. Nothing makes me happier then selecting tile and plumbing and I know how strange that sounds. The best part about this project was that I got to design two separate baths, one for him and another for her. I'm usually trying to meld the two styles, which can become a challenge. The mission for his bath was to create the black and white vintage look (love it). Then for her bath she requested a spa retreat (love this too). Both baths needed to be done in a cost effective way and be smart for resale down the road (no problemo). Here are the designs I came up with. Have a great weekend all! Xo ~ Annie

Workspace Above Bed

I am kind of a space nerd and get overly excited when I see creative ways to utilize space. This is such a brilliant office idea because it's modern, clean and the perfect balance of natural and industrial elements. Not only does it save floor space it utilizes the high loft ceilings. It's design perfection all around. You just can't be uncomfortable with heights. Xo ~ Annie

Log Entrance

I love an interesting wall detail that creates a focal point. I was jazzed to see this cut log wall idea at katescreativespace.com. I can visualize a detail like this so many different places. It would be lovely on either side of a fireplace or headboard wall. Actually it could be the headboard wall. What I love is that it's natural artwork and the best part is you could totally do it yourself and AFFORDABLELY! Check out more details HERE.

The Eames House

I visit L.A. often to see my folks and family, but I have never been to The Eames House. This home was designed by the extremely talented husband and wife Charles and Ray Eames. Most are familiar with their furniture designs, but not their architecure skills. The home is located in the lovely Pacific Palisades....it's pretty much my dream house and location. My next trip I will definetly be taking a drive to admire this work of art. Get more details about the home on laplaces.blogspot.com Happy weekend all! Xo ~ Annie

Incorporate Industrial Style

All spaces should have a touch of industrial modern. In fact I think you should really have more than a touch, because industrial is awesome. Adding industrial rustic accents brings character to any space. Here is a great article on 25 Ways to Incorporate Industrial Rustic Style into your Home. Trendsetting Pumpkins

Every Halloween I look forward to seeing the creative ways people decorate pumpkins. I especially like the ideas that don't involve carving. My daughter is still too young to notice if our home is pumpkinless, so I just enjoy the pretty photos on blogs. However, I do look forward to a future of creating hot pink, gold and ombre pumpkins with her. My favorite pumpkin decorating round up is on the blog Handmade Charlotte. I love finding a new blog, especially ones with wonderful DIY ideas. Handmade Charolotte has rounded up pumpkin ideas from some of my favorite blogs and websites such as, Funkytime, Real Simple and Poppytalk. Check out her round up to create your own trendsetting pumpkins for the stoop at Handmade Charlotte. Happy pumpkin decorating! Xo ~ Annie

Etsy Fanfare

Here is a design tip to send you on your weekend. Quickly add a whimsical fanfare to a children's space or party with fabric bunting. Bunting instantly takes a space to playful in a homespun way. I like to find fabric bunting banners on Etsy. I found this great Etsy shop happy little cottage.  Among other adorable things in her shop she has a nice selection of bunting banners in cute fabric combos. You can see below in some of the children's spaces I have designed how to incorporate this into your space. Happy Weekend All! Xo ~ Annie

Baths I Gush Over

Most of my clients contact me for Family Rooms and Bedrooms. I think people forget that I can help them with their bath and kitchen remodels too. I can mail you tile and plumbing samples and selections the same way I can mail furniture and fabrics to you. That's why I was excited when a customer contacted me to design two bathrooms. Oh how I love the tile store and selecting bath hardware. Tile and plumbing can be artwork....really! I always start a design with a little inspiration. Here are some baths I found to gush over. Stay tuned for the design reveal. Xo ~ Annie

5 Ways to Fallorize Decor

I love a cluster of pumpkins and gourds on the front stoop as much as the next person. I think it has become our "go-to" fall decor for interiors. Everyone receives their Fall Pottery Barn catalog and copies page 8 clustering pumpkins and gourds throughout the home. I think there is a different way to decorate for fall or "fallorize" your decor. With these 5 steps you won't need to display a single pumpkin or gourd... except when junior brings home an art project from school (in that case..what a sweet little gourd). Here it is 5 pumpkinless fall decor tips.

Step 1. Fill a tall glass vase with water and  long branches from your tree outside....viola centerpiece. photo via dominomag.com

Step 2. Add cozy texture accents with a wool blanket or sweater pillow. Think fall textures and add a pop of it to your sofa, chair or bed. photo of blanket via pendleton-usa.com & pillow via findingfabulousblog.com/

Step 3. Mix in vintage or rustic accents to your decor. This can be done with a stack of  vintage suitcases as a hall table or towels rolled up in a distressed bucket in your bathroom. photo via apartmenttherapy.com

Step 4. Replace your cracked or chipped staple mug with a "special" mug. One that makes that cup of cocoa taste oh so much better. of course...mugs via anthropologie.com

Step 5. Bring in the aroma of fall with a cented candle in a spicey scent and amber color. photo of candle via anthropologie.com

Follow these  easy steps and you are on your way to enjoy another lovely season. Happy fallorizing! Xo ~ Annie

Far East Emerald

Anyone who knows me knows I love a little bit of the Far East mixed into any space. According to the latest issue of Elle Decor the Far East is making it's way from cat walk into your home. In my opinion if Elle Decor says it I get on board, because they know wassup! The truth is Asian may be a new trend in larger doses, but it has always been relivent in interior design. Asian fabric, rugs and casegoods always make for great design. I usually add Far East flare with accent pieces, but when I saw this emerald Asian fabric by Schumacher I realized I would like floor to ceiling drapery panels. Forget Asian accents I want wall to wall pinch pleated treatments of this gem of a textile! Have a great weekend all and Happy Decorating! Xo ~ Annie

Studio City Design

I just wrapped up a design with a really fun and creative client. Her name is Sonny and she is a voice talent from Coast to Coast. You may have heard her on your local news promo... you can hear her at www.sonnywarner.com . I had a great time designing her Studio City, CA living space. Sonny lives and breaths her work. She also needs to be ready for her clients at a moments notice. The mission was to create a room that she can work, relax and even get a quick workout in. The style is modern and comfortable. See what Decorator in a Box came up with below. Happy Decorating! Xo ~ Annie

Julia Weekend

I feel like doing a little cooking this weekend in honor of Julia Child’s 100th Birthday. I will have to find some old Julia recipes and get that pleasant aroma wafting throughout the house. Kids Room Perfection!

I am a Pinterest nut and see a lot of adorable children's spaces being pinned. When I spotted this design it made me excited for when my baby girl grows up...yikes not many things can make me say that! Someday it will be sad yet lovely to retire the crib and select a bed. This room is the perfect balance of fabrics in a playful way. It has a dash of sophistication that says "I'm not a baby anymore". Leave it to Lonnymag to do another wonderful issue. Check out the full design in the August issue of Lonnymag. Happy Decorating! Xo ~ Annie

North Carolina Master

My clients have great style and personality! I'm not just saying that it's really true.  My latest North Carolina client continues to be a lot of fun with her eclectic taste. After doing a design for her Living Room  I was so excited when she asked me to design her Master Suite. The focus was eclectic with a global twist. I attempted to get inside the minds of Anthropologie geniuses Sibella Court and Keith Johnson. Unfortunately, we don't get to fly all over the world with Sibella and Keith. This does not mean we can't attempt the look with a few good internet finds. This Master Suite gave me lots of room to work with....yea! I was even able to create a cozy lounge area to soak up the green woodsy views of North Carolina. I think we succeeded in creating a relaxing global retreat for this client. Happy Decorating!
