Tiny Cabin Dreams

It is September and still over 90 degrees in Dallas. This has me dreaming of those summer days visiting Grandma at the lake in Minnesota. If I were there I could just jump in the lake to cool off or go water skiing. I dream of having a tiny cabin for my family to pile into someday. Check out the Decorator in a Box 10 Steps to Creating a Cozy Cabin on tinyhousedesign.com my favorite blog for tiny spaces. I love the Tiny House Design motto of less is more sustainable. Sometimes I think less is more plain and simple.

Industrial Find!

When I work on a design I try to bring in a touch of industry. It can be incorporated via a coffee table, sign letters or a simple iron wheel. I was glad to see Etsy's featured seller brandMOJO specializing in handcrafted and restored industrial pieces. BrandMOJO is a great go-to source for incorporating that industrial touch. You can read all about the creative married duo on Etsy's Spotlight.

Texas Country Couture

I just discovered House of Hargrove a great new store in Texas! They specialize in what the owner Elaine calls "Country Couture". Elaine shares my decor obsession and the mission to create "beauty on a budget". The store is an eclectic and whimsical mix of furniture and accessories. It is a great interior source to find key signature pieces every space should have. The best part is that it won't break the bank. Thank you House of Hargrove for helping to create financially savvy interiors. Visit the shop asap in adorable Downtown Historic Mckinney, TX and the website at www.houseofhargrove.com!

MYO Curtains from Swatches!

Anthropolgie has my creative wheels spinning once again. While clicking through their whimsical wonderland website I stumbled on a pair of genius curtains. They are Swatch Book Curtains and I simply have to have them for my studio window. This got me thinking, maybe I can make these curtains myself. I certainly have several fabric swatches that will just go to waste. I do not know how to sew, but I can work a hot glue gun. Here are the Decorator in a Box steps to making your own Swatch Book Curtains.

The inspiration!

Find light and neutral curtain panels. I found the panels below at Ikea for 49.99 a pair. Nothing says ready made curtains like a scrunched rod pocket, so add rings or look for a style like the one below for a more custom look. The key is to get a nice pleat and not have that scrunched on the rod effect.

Gather your fabric swatches and cut them to similar size with pinking shears. If you do not have swatches you can always request them from a local fabric store. Most furniture retails will also mail you samples free of charge. Hot glue fabrics evenly on curtains.

Use a black fabric marker to section fabrics off and write whimsical notes like on the Anthro curtains.

Voila! You have adorable and colorful Swatch Book Curtains! I will let you know how mine turn out!

Have Fashion Block Need Help?

We have all had fashion block from time to time. Fashion block is when you look in your closet and don't have a thing to wear. We have all needed that fashionista girlfriend to help us pull a cute ensemble together. I recently had this problem while trying to create an outfit for a simple dinner with girlfriends. While looking for an outfit fixer upper on the Forever21 site I stumbled on blogger The Glamourai. I had never heard of The Glamourai, but apparently she is expert enough to have Forever21 partner with her to give fashion tips. While on her site I discovered she is that girlfriend that will help you pull together the most chic outfit. Her blog is like having a stylist for a best friend. The next time you have fashion block just visit your girlfriend Kelly to bring out your inner Glamourai!

The theme for the weekend was beach, laugh, dance, eat, drink and celebrate a birthday. I could not ask for better gal pals or a better time. It inspired me to write todays post about what I think are the girls weekend essentials. I dream of having all these items on my next girl trip. Enjoy!
